Job Summary
Working part-time, the support staff member assists the lead teacher and assistant teacher with the daily operation of the classroom and all its activities.
Specific Duties
- Uphold the center’s mission, philosophy and goals
- Follow and maintain Indiana University’s policies and procedures as well as the Center’s policies and procedures as set forth in the staff and parent handbooks
- Maintain licensing standards as set forth by the State of Indiana according to
- Regulations for Licensed Child Care Centers
- Maintain accreditation standards as set forth by NAEYC
- Maintain the overall classroom in a safe, clean and orderly environment
- Assist the children with their physical needs
- Participate in all the classroom activities
- Assist with the set-up and clean-up of breakfast, snacks and lunch
- Sit with the children during meal times
- Supervise the children at free play, naps and outdoors
- Assist with the opening and closing of the center and classroom
- Attend staff meetings and training provided by the Center (a minimum of 12 hours, plus first aid, Universal Precautions and CPR)
Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma, GED, or waiver
- 6 credit hours of early childhood, elementary education or related field
- Must provide the Center with:
- Copy of high school diploma
- Copy of class schedule if a student as well as transcripts
- Satisfactory background check in accordance with Human Resources directives
- Physical with a negative Mantoux (TB) test
Essential Job Functions
- Ability to read at the 8th grade level
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to children, parents, staff and general public
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Ability to see at child’s eye level
- Ability to move quickly to defuse/or interfere with dangerous and disruptive situations
- Ability to work outside in 20 to 90 degree weather for a period up to one hour

- Uses information about individual children's needs, interests, and concerns gained through observation to help plan and implement curriculum and assessment.
- Understands, accepts, and embraces social, cultural, and economic backgrounds of children and families, ensuring that the program provides for these individual differences.
- Works cooperatively and equitably with classroom co-teacher to ensure engaging, comfortable, child-centered classroom. Is familiar with and follows state licensing regulations and national accreditation standards.
- Fills out and files written reports and forms in a timely fashion and notifies upper management regarding any accidents or unusual incidents throughout the day.
- Handles disagreements and conflicts with other center staff in a direct, but professional and respectful manner.
- Promotes center philosophy and educational objectives.
- Supports and follows the center's code of ethical conduct.
- Assists in training for hourly aides.
- Communicates respectfully and appropriately about challenges a child may have experienced in a day. In collaboration with co-teacher, communicates with families about classroom activities and child's progress on a regular basis.
- Attends and participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings.
- Pursues professional development through conferences, classes, workshops, and reading.
Qualifications
EDUCATION

WORK EXPERIENCE
